Whaaat!?!!! It has been 5 years since our sweet Sparky dog left us at age 16. We had rescued him at 4 years old. What a sweetie he was. Shoot, I named a pattern after him.
I want you to meet the newest member of our family, Riley.
It has been 27 years since I have taken care of a 2 year old (that is what we were told, that older puppies are like, 2 year olds).
Riley is (according to the animal shelter), German Shepherd, Golden Lab, and Husky. He is 1 1/2 years old. It’s funny, when we took him for a walk at the shelter, he seemed of average size. We thought, 35-40 pds. max. Well, duh, the paper work said 60 lbs. No Way! But he is.
We had to see our “Dog Whisperer” yesterday. We needed some intervention (puppy biting, and barking). Our “Pawsitive Pals” training with Lauren Hayes (see her and her concepts on FB) doesn’t start until the END of January. Lauren, in less than 45 minutes, taught us exactly what to do. The simplest thing of all is a “light leader.” And ALL training is done with praise, love, and of course, TREATS! Ha, ha. He is such a super fast learner. When, I first laid eyes on Riley I was thinking he could be a comfort dog. I would love to be able to take Riley to give some love to someone who needs a sweet happy face on their lap to touch and hug. I have never said anything to Lauren, but yesterday after our short lesson, she said Riley would make a fantastic service dog. Yeahhhh, my instincts were right. I’ll keep you posted on that. Right now, my husband and I realize just how out of shape we are! Where did I put my 5 lb. weights. My upper body really needs some strength training. (He saw a squirrel yesterday on one of our walks. YOWZAA! ). Take care everyone and remember my motto, “Make it up, make it fun, and get it done!” Hugs, Heidi
